I was born and raised on a horse ranch.  My father has been a professional horse trainer for 35yrs and myself for 15.  I have trained many open and non-pro year end champions as well as futurity champions and aged event finalists.

We give both riding lessons and cutting horse lessons.  We really enjoy both.  I love to help people build confidence on their horse.  We give clear and concise instruction tailored to the individuals needs whether they are novice riders or very experienced.  We love spending time with people and always provide a confident and positive atmosphere for them to learn in.

I think it's good for the horses to experience different jobs during training to keep his mind fresh and happy.  That leads to an important aspect of training to me.  The horse has to like his job.  Each horse is dealt with as an individual and his needs are met accordingly.  I try to teach my horses to think and get very smart about a cow.  The more he knows about a cow the more confidence he will have when he shows.

We run around 1000 head of cattle every year which means a great cattle supply and all the horses in the program get lots of ranch riding.  We like to develop each horse into a great all around ranch horse in addition to being a competitive cutter.  Most horses here see lots of trailer rides, work cattle in the fields, fix fence, rope, and all kinds of other ranch chores in addition to the cutting pen.

Cathey Jr Cutting Horses is a family affair and we are all involved in the working of the ranch and the horses. My wife, CareyLee, also rides and gives lessons. And our son, Caleb, is a rough and tumble, budding cowboy.
